This state historical marker (No. 126) on US 34 about 4 miles east of Haigler marks Texas Trail Canyon. From the late 1870s Texas cattle herds were delivered here before being driven north to Ogallala; the canyon had its name by 1881, and a checkpoint inspected herds for brands and disease in 1883–84. It is said that 150,000 cattle passed in 1886, the last year of the drives. Early settlers were buried nearby, and unidentified remains were reburied here in 1971. In 2022 the plaque was reported missing from its stone.
