The initial point of the Sixth Principal Meridian, set in 1856 on the 40th parallel, is the starting point for land surveys across Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Wyoming and South Dakota. It lies on the Nebraska–Kansas line about 4 miles south-southwest of Reynolds, where Jefferson, Thayer, Washington (Kansas) and Republic (Kansas) counties meet, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. From Reynolds, take county roads south toward Mahaska, Kansas.
