Russ's Market is a Lincoln company through and through. Russ Raybould and Clayton Burnett, both former Safeway men, opened the first store at 17th and Washington Street in May 1964 as a small neighborhood grocery; Raybould later took full control, and the business became B&R Stores, which today runs about 35 stores under eight banners across Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri - Russ's Market, Super Saver, Save Best and Grand Central Apple Market among them. Russ's stores are conventional full-service supermarkets with produce, meat, bakery, deli, dairy and frozen departments, and they remain Nebraska-owned rather than part of a national chain.
