The Platte County Fair is held at AG PARK, 822 15th Street in Columbus, in the second week of July. The grounds are a working racetrack: the Platte County Agricultural Society has hosted thoroughbred racing here each summer since it was founded, and the site carries Nebraska State Historical Society marker number 139, Agricultural Park. The society was established on 2 June 1941 around an 84-acre farm donated by Mrs Albert Gehner with 5,000 dollars from Theodore Friedhof, and has held a fair every year since. Early fairs used tents before permanent buildings went up. The fair itself is built mainly on 4-H and FFA exhibits with some open class, a Moore’s Greater Show carnival, food and entertainment, and RV camping on the grounds. Phone 402-564-0133.
