Description

Congress created the Pine Ridge National Recreation Area on October 20, 1986: about 6,600 acres of ponderosa buttes and canyons in the Nebraska National Forest in Dawes County, open to hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding but not motor vehicles. The Roberts Tract Trailhead has camping, a vault toilet, water and a rider ramp, with a fee from Memorial Day to Labor Day. From Chadron, go 8 miles west on US 20, 7 miles south on Eleson Road, then east on Bethel Road. Managed by the Pine Ridge Ranger District.
