The Panhandle REEC is the University of Nebraska's research and extension center for western Nebraska, at 4502 Avenue I in Scottsbluff, on the former Hiram Scott College campus. Eighteen faculty and educators work on crop production, irrigation and livestock — sheep, swine, dairy and beef — using a 156-acre small-plot research site, an 800-acre experimental range in Sioux County and the High Plains Agricultural Laboratory near Sidney. The center dates from 1909 and took its present name in 1985. Its meeting rooms can be booked, mainly by university and non-profit educational groups.
