Ogallala City Hall is the municipal office for Ogallala, Nebraska, at 411 East 2nd Street. Ogallala is the county seat of Keith County, population 4,878. Settled 1868, platted 1875 and incorporated 1884 after the Union Pacific reached the site in 1867. The city administration building houses the City Manager, City Clerk/Treasurer and the Water and Sewer Department, and offers online water and sewer bill payment plus agendas, minutes and permit forms. Ogallala was the northern terminus of the Great Western Cattle Trail and earned the nicknames 'The Town Too Tough for Texas' and 'Gomorrah of the Plains' during the trail-driving era. Lake McConaughy, Nebraska's largest reservoir and a major boating and beach destination, lies just north of the city. The town appears in Larry McMurtry's Lonesome Dove. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
