Description

A History Nebraska marker in Village Park, at Main and Washington streets in Nehawka, tells the story of the Nehawka Flint Quarries. North of the village, people dug pits into the limestone to reach flint nodules; most of the digging was by Central Plains farmers about A.D. 1000–1400, and Nehawka flint was traded across the central Plains. The quarries were listed on the National Register in 1970. They are on private land and their location is restricted; visit the marker.
