The Jefferson County Fair is held at 56885 PWF Road in Fairbury in early to mid-July, and it has something almost no other Nebraska county fair has: a permanent racetrack on the grounds. The Jefferson County Speedway runs three nights during fair week, including USAC-sanctioned racing and the Midwest Midget Championship. Around it come a ranch rodeo, mutton bustin’ on two evenings, a hypnotist, bands, egg games, putt-putt golf, the Garry Moore Amusements carnival, horse arena events, 4-H activities and exhibits, a Sunday church service and armband nights Thursday to Saturday. The fair also presents Pioneer Farm Families Awards recognizing long-held family farms. Phone 402-729-5792. Note that jeffcofairgrounds.org belongs to a Jefferson County fairground in Washington state.
