Holdrege City Hall is the municipal office for Holdrege, Nebraska, at 502 East Avenue. Holdrege is the county seat of Phelps County, population 5,515, designated county seat in 1884. Established 1883 when the railroad arrived and incorporated February 14 1884. Settled largely by Swedish immigrants in the 1880s. Home of the Nebraska Prairie Museum, which averages about 23,000 visitors a year, and The Tassel performing arts center, opened 1999. Lake Seldom Wildlife Refuge is described as the largest municipally owned wildlife refuge in Nebraska. Major employers include Allmand Brothers, Becton Dickinson, Phelps Memorial Health Center, LandMark Implement and Holdrege Public Schools.
