Gering City Hall is the municipal office for Gering, Nebraska, at 1025 P Street. Gering is the county seat of Scotts Bluff County, population 8,564, the 17th most populous city in Nebraska. Founded March 7 1887 and named for pioneer merchant Martin Gering. Gering sits at the base of Scotts Bluff National Monument, a landmark on the Oregon Trail three miles west of town. The city operates its own Electric, Water, Wastewater, Stormwater and Sanitation utilities. Departments at or coordinated through City Hall include Administration, Police, Fire and Rescue, Library, Engineering and Planning, Public Works, Street and Parks and Recreation. With neighboring Scottsbluff it forms the seventh largest urban area in Nebraska. Home to the Legacy of the Plains Museum and Union Pacific steam locomotive No. 423 at Five Rocks Amphitheater; served by the Tri-City Roadrunner transit system since 2018. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
