Geneva City Hall

Geneva City Hall is the municipal office for Geneva, Nebraska, at 167 South 10th Street. Geneva is the county seat of Fillmore County, population 2,136, about 24 miles south of Interstate 80 on US 81. Founded 1871 and named for Geneva, Switzerland, possibly by way of Geneva, New York. The city provides municipal water and sewer service. The City Clerk-Treasurer keeps all public records, laws and ordinances, issues licenses, permits and occupation tax receipts, and handles budgets, payroll, audit filings, grants and economic development. On July 15 1934 Geneva recorded Nebraska's all-time highest temperature, 118 degrees, a record it shares with Minden and Hartington. The 1894 Fillmore County Courthouse, with a three-story clock tower added in 1909, is on the National Register. Nobel laureate economist Robert B. Wilson and Kate Barnard, the first woman elected to statewide office in Oklahoma, both came from Geneva. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
