Franklin City Hall

Franklin City Hall is the municipal office for Franklin, Nebraska, at 619 15th Avenue. Franklin is the county seat of Franklin County, population 941, in south-central Nebraska near the Kansas line. Founded in the 1870s and named for Benjamin Franklin. The city owns and operates its own power plant and electrical utility along with water and sewer, sanitation and waste reduction, and street management. Other functions include the cemetery and parks, the ball park and recreation program, the Franklin Public Library, a Board of Health, and planning and zoning; police service is contracted through the Franklin County Sheriff. The City Council meets at City Hall at 6:00 the second Tuesday of each month. Frank W. Cyr, the educator known as the father of the yellow school bus, was born here, and former Governor Ashton Shallenberger died while giving a speech in Franklin in February 1938. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
