The District No. 10 School stands at 717 Rd. and 559 Ave., about 3 miles west of Powell and near the Alexandria Lakes. The district was organized in 1869 with its first school in the Meridian townsite; the school moved here in 1890, and the present frame building, with its coal shed and two privies, dates from about 1900. The last term was taught in 1960. Since 1966 the Jefferson County Historical Society and the Alexandria Community Club have kept it as a schoolhouse museum. The Oregon Trail passed just south, and a 1914 trail marker stands on the grounds. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Call 402-729-5131 to visit.
