The Cowboy Recreation and Nature Trail begins at Ta-Ha-Zouka Park in Norfolk, with more parking off South 1st Street. Built on the old Fremont, Elkhorn & Missouri Valley (later Chicago & North Western) line, it is planned to run 321 miles to Chadron; about 195 continuous miles, Norfolk to Valentine, were finished in 2009. The surface is fine crushed limestone, with concrete through the park and in towns; it heads west past Battle Creek and Meadow Grove to Tilden.
