Circle C Day is Cody’s town celebration, held on a single Saturday over Memorial Day weekend, and it has run for sixty-one years, having been revived by a group of local citizens after nearly being lost. The day runs a nine o’clock parade, an eleven o’clock rodeo, a ranch horse race, sand volleyball and cornhole tournaments, a smoked brisket barbecue dinner in the park and a street dance in the evening. The Little Mr. and Miss Circle C contest is decided by voting at local businesses rather than by judges. One quirk worth knowing: Cody sits in the Mountain Time part of Cherry County, so the horse race is billed at 4:45 Mountain while most of Nebraska runs Central. Rodeo entries through Shara Ford on 402-389-0917; parade entries through Danielle Miller on 308-293-2229.
