Description

This History Nebraska marker on US 6/34 at Holbrook marks Burton's Bend, where Isaac "Ben" Burton settled in 1870 on a bend of the Republican River at the 100th meridian and, with H. Dice, kept a trading post for buffalo hunters. The marker calls him the first permanent settler of Furnas County. The post office of Burton's Bend opened in 1872 and was renamed Holbrook when the railroad came.
