Rodeo at Atkinson is the Atkinson Lions Club Ranch Rodeo, held at the Atkinson rodeo grounds during Hay Days in late August. It is a ranch rodeo in the working format rather than a PRCA contest, run over two evenings with mutton bustin’ at six, a Calcutta at half past, and the rodeo at seven. Hay Days itself traces to the early 1900s and marks the near-end of the hay harvest, which is the right way to understand this event: it belongs to the hay season, not to a county fair. The weekend also carries dances, a parade, park games, duck races, a tractor pull, an outdoor movie and a free barbecue in the city park to close. Team entries through Nick Schrunk on 402-340-6362.
