About Denman

Denman is an unincorporated community on Elm Island in Shelton Township, in the southeast corner of Buffalo County near where Buffalo, Hall, Adams and Kearney counties meet, about 5½ miles south of Shelton.

History

Denman was named for Francis Marion Denman (1839–1917), a Civil War veteran who had owned the site. A 1916 photograph shows a hotel, store, grain elevator, depot, lumber yard, stockyards and blacksmith shop, and F. C. Wiese ran a grocery here from 1921 to 1961. The post office operated from 1914 to 1956.
