About Lorenzo
Lorenzo is a census-designated place in Cheyenne County, in the panhandle of western Nebraska. Thirty-six people lived there at the 2020 census. The designated area takes in 6.84 square miles, which works out to about five people per square mile. The elevation is 4,380 feet, roughly three-quarters of a mile above sea level. Nebraska Highway 19 runs through the place, and Lorenzo keeps Mountain time.
History
Lorenzo was a depot on the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad. A post office operated here from 1916 until it closed in 1933. Beyond that the record is thin. No account of how the place got its name turns up in the readily available sources, and no founding date is given for the townsite.
Getting there
Sidney, the Cheyenne County seat, lies north-east of Lorenzo; published distances vary between eight and ten miles, so treat the figure as approximate. The Colorado state line is about three and a half miles south, and Peetz, Colorado, roughly six miles south. Potter, Gurley and Brownson are the other nearby Nebraska communities.
