The Arcadia Centennial 1885–1985 marker, No. 298, on the south side of NE 70 just west of the Middle Loup River bridge at Arcadia, was put up in 1985 by the Valley County Centennial Committee and the Nebraska State Historical Society. It tells of the first settlers in 1873, the Hawthorne families who named the town and opened its post office in 1874, the 1885 town plat, the Burlington’s arrival in 1887 and the locusts, blizzards, fires and tornadoes the town came through.
