Description

Two state historical markers stand side by side just inside the south entrance of Genoa City Park, off S. Park Street (NE 39) south of Ewing Avenue in Genoa. "Pawnee" tells of the Pawnee confederacy, the 1857 treaty that left them only present Nance County, the Pawnee Scouts under Maj. Frank North, and their removal to Oklahoma in 1874–75. "Genoa: 1857–1859" tells of the Mormon colonists who arrived on May 16, 1857, built a way station for the Brigham Young Express and Carrying Company, and left in 1859 when Genoa became part of the Pawnee Reservation.
