About Erina
Erina is the site of an Irish settlement and former post office in Garfield County, north of Burwell; Erina precinct keeps the name, and the Erina Cemetery is in the area. In 1917 it was described as 22 miles northwest of Ericson, with mail by stage from Burwell.
History
An Irish colony arrived in the spring of 1880. Its post office was first named Erin, then renamed Erina because Nebraska already had an Erin. Mrs. Hannah Quin was postmaster in 1920, and the office was discontinued by 1925. Nearby Dumas, named for Alexandre Dumas, was also in Erina precinct.
