History Nebraska marker No. 557, “Long Pine – A Railroad Town,” was put up in 2019 by Long Pine Heritage on N. Main St., 0.1 mile south of E. 3rd St., beside the Cowboy Trail in Long Pine. It tells how the railroad arrived in 1881, how the Chicago & North Western bridged Long Pine Creek and made the town a division point between Norfolk and Chadron, with a roundhouse and water from the Seven Springs, and how five passenger trains a day brought visitors to the Chautauqua and Hidden Paradise. The last train ran in 1992. The roundhouse site is nearby, and the trail bridge is about 0.6 mile west.
