About Meadville
Meadville is an unincorporated community on the north bank of the Niobrara River in Keya Paha County, at about 2,054 feet, about 7 miles southwest of Springview and 15 miles north of Ainsworth. Plum Creek enters the river just upstream. The Meadville Bridge is an access point for floats on the eastern Niobrara; since 2019 boaters launch from the state right-of-way on the south bank.
History
The post office opened on October 29, 1883, and was named for its first postmaster, Merit I. Mead; it closed in 1960. In 1890 Meadville had about 15 people, a general store and a blacksmith. The Niobrara Valley Preserve's river frontage runs upstream from here toward Smith Falls.
