Description

The marker "DeWitty: An African American Settlement in the Sandhills" was crowdfunded by descendants, the Cherry County Historical Society and author Stew Magnuson and dedicated on April 11, 2016, on US 83 south of Brownlee Road. It now stands at the Cherry County Historical Society Museum in Valentine. It tells the story of DeWitty, settled from about 1907 along the North Loup River.
