About Gabe Rock
Gabe Rock is a butte in western Banner County, about 7 miles west of Harrisburg; an early Geological Survey report gave its height as 5,006 feet. The map marks Gabe Rock Cemetery, which takes its name from the rock.
History
Gabe Rock and nearby Gabe Springs were landmarks of the early ranch country west of Harrisburg; the origin of the name is not recorded. The cemetery, deeded in 1896 and no longer used for burials, is reached by going west from Harrisburg on County Road 18 and north on County Road 21. A U.S. Geological Survey quadrangle map is named for the rock.
