About Stoddard
Stoddard was a railroad stop in southern Thayer County, about 5 miles north of Chester and 6 miles south of Hebron, on the Burlington line that ran between them. The name survives as a county precinct; the map point is approximate.
History
Stoddard grew up as a depot on the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy branch between Hebron and Chester, and its post office opened in 1886. In 1917 it was described as a post office on the Burlington 6 miles south of Hebron, with a grain warehouse. The area had its own St. Paul's Lutheran congregation, whose records are held by History Nebraska. The post office closed in 1934.
