About Rosemont

Rosemont is a former town in northeastern Webster County, about 5½ miles southeast of Blue Hill and 5½ miles west of Lawrence, near NE 4. Liberty Cove Recreation Area is about 3½ miles east-southeast.

History

Rosemont was established on June 16, 1890, as a new Lincoln Land Company town on the Burlington's DeWitt–Holdrege branch east of Blue Hill, and was named for Claus Rose Sr., who owned the town site. Its post office opened in 1890 and closed in 1955, and county tax rolls long paired Oak Creek Township with "Rosemont Village." Zion Lutheran Church and a Presbyterian cemetery served the community. The railroad through Rosemont is gone.
