Former siding · Sioux County · post office (as Adelia) 1891–1910

About Joder

Joder is a former siding on the BNSF (Burlington) line in northeastern Sioux County, about 15 miles north-northwest of Crawford. Toadstool Geologic Park and the Hudson-Meng Education and Research Center are a few miles west.

History

Rosenberg and Wasserberger families homesteaded along Cottonwood Creek in the mid-1880s, and the settlement was called Adelia; its post office ran from 1891 to 1910. The Chicago, Burlington & Quincy built its Alliance–Edgemont line through in 1889 and set up a water station and telegraph office at Adelia. In 1906 the railroad moved its station up the grade to Orella, and the old siding took the name Joder. The line is still in service as BNSF's Butte Subdivision.
