Galena, Nebraska

Galena was a rural post office in the western part of Hayes County, thirteen miles west of Hayes Center.

History

The office was established on 24 September 1886 and discontinued on 29 April 1916, a run of thirty years. The 1890 Nebraska State Gazetteer gives it a population of twenty, with S. W. Sleeth as postmaster. The name was probably borrowed from Galena in Illinois or Galena in Kansas, both lead mining towns.

The exact site is no longer recorded.
