Carrico Nebraska

Carrico, Nebraska

Carrico was a post office and early settlement in the northwestern part of Hayes County, on Red Willow Creek about twenty-five miles north of Culbertson.

History

The county history records that the first homesteads in Hayes County were taken in the vicinity of the Carrico post office on Red Willow Creek in 1874, and that a post office was established there in 1880 with large cattle ranches working the country nearby. The 1890 Nebraska State Gazetteer still lists it as a post office in the northwestern part of the county.

Carrico does not appear in either of the standard Nebraska place name references, so the 1880 date rests on the county history alone, and no closing date has been recorded. Nothing is known of its population or businesses.
