About Belvidere
Belvidere is a village in the north central area of Thayer County, Nebraska, one mile east of Highway 81. The 2020 census counted 51 residents. The village covers about 0.47 square miles, all land, and sits at 1,516 feet above sea level. The farms around it grow corn, soybeans, milo and alfalfa, some dryland and some irrigated.
History
Belvidere started in 1872 with the construction of the railroad through the territory. The Saint Joseph and Grand Island Railroad named the station, following its practice of naming stops in alphabetical order. The name may have been taken from Belvidere, Illinois, or from Belvidere, New Jersey. The oldest building in town is a church put up in 1886, the second oldest church building in Thayer County.
Visiting
The Thayer County Museum occupies the brick school building of 1920, with three floors of county history. An annex holding genealogy files was added in 2004 and a barn for farm equipment in 2010, along with a restored one-room schoolhouse. A Union Pacific caboose has stood on the grounds since 1989. There is also a train watching station, and Centennial Park, laid out in 1967.

Belvidere's population fell sharply between 2000 and 2010 (from 98 to 48) but has since held roughly steady around 50 residents, making it one of the county's smallest but currently stable villages.
