Morse Bluff is a village in Saunders County, Nebraska. It covers about 0.18 square miles at an elevation of roughly 1,289 feet. The 2020 census counted 117 residents, down from 135 in 2010. The village uses ZIP code 68648.
History
The town was platted in 1887, when the Chicago and North Western Railroad was extended to the point. A centennial history published in 1987 covers the village and the surrounding rural area for the hundred years from 1887, drawing on records, newspapers and the recollections of residents. That volume also treats a nearby country church whose history it dates from 1879.
The name
Sources do not agree on who the village is named for. One account says the name honours Chester Morse, who held the original deed to the land. A 1925 survey of Nebraska place names instead credits Charles W. Morse of North Bend, Nebraska, who it says once owned the land the townsite occupies. Both accounts agree the name comes from a landowner named Morse.
