Palisade Nebraska 69040

Palisade is a village in southwestern Nebraska, mostly within Hitchcock County (it sits right at the Hitchcock-Hayes county line). It was established in 1882 as the railroad reached the area, and takes its name from the surrounding terrain, thought to resemble a palisade.

The 2020 census recorded 294 residents, continuing a gradual decline from 351 in 2010 and 386 in 2000. Each June, the village hosts "Palisade Pioneer Days," a community celebration built around returning high school alumni, with games, meals, and a parade. Notable native Ralph Arthur Bohlmann went on to serve as a seminary president.
