North Bend, Nebraska

North Bend traces its roots to 1856, when Scottish immigrants settled at a bend in the Platte River and named the community Franklin. The town was renamed North Bend in 1864 after the Union Pacific Railroad chose the site for a depot; the first train arrived in 1866, and the railroad platted the town in 1867. The community's first newspaper began publishing in 1879.

The 2020 census recorded 1,279 residents, down from a peak of 1,368 in 1980. North Bend sits on the north bank of the Platte River at the junction of U.S. Route 30 and Nebraska Highway 79, and the North Bend Eagle, founded in 1897, remains the city's oldest continuously operating business. Actress Marg Helgenberger and engineer Charles H. Purcell both grew up in North Bend.
