About Willow Springs
Willow Springs was the first county seat of Garfield County, a few miles from Burwell in the southwestern part of the county. Nothing of the town is known to remain; Willow Springs Road, home of Kamp Kaleo on the North Loup, keeps the name.
History
When Garfield County was organized in 1884, after voters separated it from Wheeler County in 1881, Willow Springs became the county seat. The Burlington branch reached Burwell in 1887, and in 1890 the seat moved to Burwell, which had the railroad; Willow Springs was soon abandoned. An old gazetteer described it as about four miles from Burwell, at the end of the Palmer and Burwell branch of the B&M.
