Tekamah City Hall is the municipal office for Tekamah, Nebraska, at 1126 South 13th Street. Tekamah is the county seat of Burt County, population 1,714. Founded October 1854 by Benjamin R. Folsom and incorporated March 14 1855, one of Nebraska's oldest incorporated communities. The name is Omaha for 'big cottonwood.' The City Clerk's office handles utility and water accounts, code complaints and general administration. Landmarks: the 1916 Tekamah Carnegie Library (expanded 2013), the 1916 Burt County Courthouse with its mosaic of the state seal, and the Tekamah Auditorium. Annual sweet corn festival; the Burt County Museum occupies the 1904 E.C. Houston House. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
