Sidney City Hall is the municipal office for Sidney, Nebraska, at 1115 13th Avenue. Sidney is the county seat of Cheyenne County, population 6,410, and the largest city in the Nebraska Panhandle, on Interstate 80. Founded 1867 by the Union Pacific around the military post of Fort Sidney; named for Sidney Dillon, a Union Pacific president. City services include Administration, Public Services and Public Works, Planning, Animal Control, garbage and recycling, and municipal utilities. The City Council meets at City Hall the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 5:30. Sidney was the corporate headquarters of outdoor retailer Cabela's until its 2017 acquisition by Bass Pro Shops. Historic sites include Fort Sidney, a Boot Hill cemetery and a Carnegie library.
