Description

Seward City Hall is the municipal office for Seward, Nebraska, at 537 Main Street. Seward is the county seat of Seward County, population 7,643, part of the Lincoln metropolitan area. Platted 1868; the railroad arrived 1873. Congress named Seward America's Official Fourth of July City, Small Town USA in 1979, after Governor J. James Exon made it Nebraska's official 4th of July City in 1973; the celebration draws crowds estimated near 40,000. The city runs municipal electric and water and wastewater utilities with a dedicated after-hours power outage line. City-operated facilities include the public library, Civic Center, Wellness Center and Senior Center, plus Police, Street, Public Properties, and Building, Zoning and Code Enforcement. Home of Concordia University Nebraska and St. Gregory the Great Seminary. Major employers include Tenneco, Concordia University, Hughes Brothers and Memorial Health Care Systems. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
