Description

Rock Creek Station State Historical Park near Fairbury in Jefferson County preserves the site of an Oregon Trail and Pony Express relay station along Rock Creek. The site is historically significant as the location of Wild Bill Hickok's first gunfight in 1861. Reconstructed historic buildings including the East Ranch, West Ranch, and stable interpret life on the overland trails. Visible wagon ruts from Oregon Trail traffic are preserved in the park. Living history programs are offered seasonally. The park features hiking trails, camping, and a visitor center. A Nebraska State Park Entry Permit is required.
