Presbyterian Mission Cemetery — Macy

Presbyterian Mission Cemetery stands north of Macy, in Thurston County, on the Missouri River bluffs. It was begun in 1853 alongside the three-storey Presbyterian mission building put up by the Reverend William Hamilton. About six stones remain, carrying nine names. The ground is abandoned and overgrown, and reaching it means a walk through thick woodland.

The mission school it served is remembered in print: Francis La Flesche, who was born in 1857 and was a pupil there, wrote The Middle Five in 1900, an account of the Omaha schoolboys who went through it.
