Description

Pleasant Hill Cemetery stands at the junction of Havelock Avenue and 202nd Street, half a mile west and two and a half miles north of Eagle, in Cass County, with about a hundred and eighty recorded graves.

It became a burial ground before anyone laid it out as one: three little girls, daughters of early settlers travelling by covered wagon, died and were buried in the north-west corner. By the time two acres were formally deeded for a cemetery in 1881 it was already the resting place of many from the Eagle community.

The creek alongside is Camp Creek, and the Camp Creek School stood on the half-mile line in that section until diphtheria closed it. That is thought to be how the ground came to be called Camp Creek Cemetery.
