The Old Log Church Cemetery lies in the far west of Dakota County near the Dixon County line, in Summit Township. The county's records carry it under four other names — Elk Valley, Friend's Church, Elk Creek and Oak Cemetery — and the Friend's Church name is the telling one: this was a Quaker burying ground, like Springbank Friends across the line in Dixon County.
About twenty-five graves remain. Many of the burials were moved out over the years for fear the Missouri would flood or cut into the ground.
Around 52 memorials have been recorded, which is a record of what has been photographed and indexed rather than a count of everyone buried there.
For burial records or plot enquiries, contact the Dakota County Clerk in Dakota City. Ownership can also be confirmed through the Nebraska Statewide Cemetery Registry at the State Historical Society.
