Michael Foods runs a large egg products plant at 105 North Main Street in Wakefield, in Dixon County, and employs around 700 people in and around the town — by some way the biggest employer in the area. The business was founded by Milton Waldbaum in Nebraska in 1950, was bought by Michael Foods in 1988, and has been part of Post Holdings since 2014. The legal name on its federal inspection grants is still M.G. Waldbaum Company. Four separate Michael Foods sites hold inspection grants around Wakefield: the plant on North Main Street, a second at 101A North Oak Street, and the laying farms at Big Red Farms and Husker Pride Farms.
