Lexington City Hall is the municipal office for Lexington, Nebraska, at 406 East 7th Street. Lexington is the county seat of Dawson County, population 10,348, the 16th most populous city in Nebraska. Founded 1871 as Plum Creek on the Platte River along the Union Pacific and US 30; the site had been a Pony Express stop in the 1860s. Operates under a city manager, with a Deputy City Manager, Personnel Director and Finance Director. The city provides municipal electric, water, sewer and trash service. Other functions include the Police Department, Parks and Recreation, the public library, museums, cemeteries and the Grand Generation Center. Attractions include the Heartland Museum of Military Vehicles beside I-80 and the Dawson County Historical Society museum. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
