Description

Kent Cemetery overlooks the North Loup river valley east of Taylor. From Highway 91 it is reached off Kent Road, and a sign marks the turn as you head west on 823 Road.

It was laid out on the southeast corner of Benjamin Harvey's property, in section 32-21-17, probably in the late 1870s, with Uriah Bromwich as its first caretaker. The oldest headstone is that of Mary E. Harvey, 1840 to 1874, wife of Benjamin Harvey, who was first buried on the family homestead and moved here once the cemetery was established. Several graves marked in 1881 suggest the ground was in use before that year, and two very old undated graves are reported locally to be those of veterans.

Around 509 memorials have been recorded, which is a record of what has been photographed and indexed rather than a count of everyone buried there.

For burial records or plot enquiries, contact the Village of Taylor, or the Loup County Clerk in Taylor. Ownership can also be confirmed through the Nebraska Statewide Cemetery Registry at the State Historical Society.
