The Kearney County weed superintendent is the county’s noxious weed control authority, based at 1124 E 9th St in Minden. Nebraska law requires every county to have one. The office inspects land for the weeds on the state noxious list — musk and Canada thistle, leafy spurge, phragmites, knapweed and the rest — and can require a landowner to control them, doing the work and billing for it if a notice is ignored. It is also the office to ring if you want to know what is spreading in your area, what to spray and when, or who is responsible for a roadside.
