Kearney City Hall is the municipal office for Kearney, Nebraska, at 18 East 22nd Street. Kearney is the county seat of Buffalo County, population 33,790, the fifth most populous city in the state, incorporated December 3 1873. The city has operated under a council-manager form of government since 1950; the City Council meets in the Council Chambers at 18 East 22nd Street on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at 5:30. Sixteen city departments include a municipal airport, the cemetery, utilities, Meadowlark Hills Golf Course, the Kearney SportsPlex and the Peterson Senior Activity Center. Kearney is home to the University of Nebraska at Kearney, founded 1905. Largest employers include Good Samaritan Hospital, the university and Baldwin Filters, along with Kearney Public Schools and the retailer The Buckle. Landmarks include the Great Platte River Road Archway Monument spanning Interstate 80, the Museum of Nebraska Art and the Viaero Event Center.
