Hastings City Hall

Hastings City Hall is the municipal office for Hastings, Nebraska, at 615 West Third Street. Hastings is the county seat of Adams County, population 25,152, the eighth most populous city in the state, incorporated in April 1874. The city runs sixteen departments, including its own municipal utility, Hastings Utilities, plus a municipal airport, fire and rescue, the public library, a museum, a solid waste landfill and the street department. A note on the address: City Hall was vacated in 2023 for a major asbestos and mold renovation, and city staff worked from the Landmark Center at 2727 West Second Street, Suite 424, during the work. Departments are moving back into the renovated building through late August and early September 2026, and the street address changed at that point from 220 North Hastings Avenue to 615 West Third Street. Some directories and social media pages still show the older or temporary addresses; the main phone line has not changed. Kool-Aid was invented in Hastings by Edwin Perkins in 1927, and the city holds Kool-Aid Days each summer. Hastings was home to the largest United States Naval Ammunition Depot during the Second World War and was designated an American World War II Heritage City by the National Park Service in 2023. Landmarks include the Hastings Museum of Natural and Cultural History in its 1939 Art Deco building, the Jacob Fisher Rainbow Fountain in Highland Park, and Hastings College, founded 1882.
